52 Weeks Project

Week 2: the 52 Weeks Project

Week Two:

This week’s List is: Favorite characters from movies, books, or television. Perfect for us, right?

Since this list could go on for days so I’ll narrow it down to what pops into my mind first.

  1. Movies:Surprisingly enough to me, I fell head over heels in love with Alexander Skarsgård in his role as Tarzan. OMG! I rolled my eyes when I was subjected to this movie, but I was soon enthralled. His intense love for Jane melted me and I think I watched that movie three times over the weekend. And she is great! I thought she was spirited and funny and her faith in him is inspiring. ar-an298_tarzan_gr_20160622173244
  2. Books: Jacob from Twilight, Dorian and Hawke from Nalini Sing’s Psy/Changeling series. (Really any of her men. Jeez, that woman can write!)kiss-of-snow-186x300
  3. (inserting self-promo here) One of my favorite female characters is actually Amilynn, from my Blake Pride Series. She’s bad-a$$, she’s girly, she’s complicated and yet relatable. I *LOVED* writing this character and I’m not anywhere near done with her. Please go check out this book!
  4. Tyrion Lannister, from Game of Thrones. “I drink and I know things.” ’nuff said. He is just too funny and he faces down dragons, for Heaven’s sake! I’m impressed.
  5. Lyanna Mormont, from Game of Thrones. She’s ruling a country with balls of steel. My hero is a ten year old. If this little girl had three dragons, there wouldn’t be nearly as many books. Just sayin’.

The book suggests finding a common trait between these characters that you admire and working towards that trait this week. For me, that trait is clearly strength and humor. All of these people have courage under pressure, a healthy backbone, and a knack for survival when the odds are stacked against them. They also, for the most part, face these circumstances with a sense of humor. Laughter can be the best way to deal with things. Find the joy in everything, right?

It definitely gives me something to work for this week! How about you?

Love,

Jo

  1. 1) Movies: LOVE, love, Love Meryl Street in MAMA MIA!! Her performance and that of Christine Baranski made up for Pierce Brosnan’s awful attempt at singing. Love ABBA’s songs.
(Buddy the) ELF makes me laugh every year at Christmas–Will Ferrell is nutty!
Kevin Cline and Meg Ryan in FRENCH KISS make me want to hop on a plane to the Bordeau region of France and fall in love with the first grapevine I see.
2)Books: Claire and Jamie are the world’s most perfect couple in the OUTLANDER series. Master Li and his slight character flaw in BRIDGE OF BIRDS makes reading a complete delight. Number Ten OX (his accomplice) is a paragon of loyalty and obedience. And Atticus Finch in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD will ALWAYS be my hero–regardless of what he did or didn’t do in GO SET A WATCHMAN.
    3) TV: Travis Fimmel (King Ragnar) and Kathryn Winnick (Queen Lagatha) of the VIKINGS fascinate me. I’m sure I was a “Shield Maiden” in another life. And I’ve always been drawn to the rugged, harsh beauty of the Norwegian fjords and the land surrounding the Viking territory.
Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman) slay me with their relationship, sarcasm and dry wit.

  2. Rhett Butler from Gone With The Wind as well as Scarlett O’Hara!
Richard Gere in American Gigilo, Pretty Woman, Nights in Rodanthe.
Robert Pattison in Twilight series, Remember Me and Water For Elephants.
Kevin Costner in Dances With Wolves, Message in a Bottle.
As you can tell, I go for more of the romantic genre.
